What is Pilates?

What is Pilates?

Our rehabilitation approach incorporates The Pilates method and principles. The Pilates method is a system of exercises that was originally developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920's. Pilates is system of exercises designed to promote strong core postural muscle strength, including the abdominals, back and buttocks which is especially useful in the rehabilitation and prevention of injuries.

Trapeze Table

The Many leading back specialists endorse The Pilates method as the therapy of choice to prevent surgery and/or assist in rehabilitation post-surgery. Our Pilates-trained Physiotherapist will prescribe the appropriate pilates exercises specific to the goals and needs of each client. Close supervision by trained Pilates Physiotherapist is necessary to execute the exercises correctly, prevent injury with the pilates exercises and achieve the goals of the pilates program.

Reformer

At Rehabcorp Physiotherapy we have state-of-the-art Pilates equipment in our Studio/Pilates Gym including a Pilates Reformer, Multi-chair and Trapeze Table. We also have Pilates Exercise Mats, Foam Rollers, Pilates Magic Circles, Theraband, Pilates Balls and Chi balls for our Pilates Mat Classes. Our Pilates studio is used for Individual Pilates sessions and Group Pilates Classes. Individual Pilates training enables the clients to understand and refine the basics of the Pilates repertoire and obtain an individually tailored Pilates program using our Pilates machines and equipment to meet their physical requirements. Group Pilates Mat Classes and Pilates Equipment Classes are also conducted in our studio with a maximum of 8 people per class. There are a number of schools of Pilates including Winsor Pilates or Stott Pilates but our Pilates Instructors are also Physiotherapists who are trained by Pilates Physiotherapists in Rehabilitation focused Pilates through Polestar Pilates, Dance Medicine Australia, and the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (APPI). People often spell Pilates incorrectly such as pilatus, pilaties, pilate, pilatis, palates and pillates. For more information on Pilates please visit What is Pilates
